Lavender Botanical Skincare
We are so excited to introduce our new product line Lavender Botanical Skincare! If you haven’t already, check out our blog about the inspiration and philosopy behind this “field to face” skincare line. Below, learn about our gentle Cleanser and how you can incorporate it into your face care routine.
How often should you wash your face?
Your skin is an organ with a rich tapestry of beneficial microorganisms that live on the surface, protecting and nourishing it in a symbiotic relationship. Our modern practice of constantly stripping the natural biome with soap then trying to add back moisture actually increases your chances of skin issues like acne, irritation, etc. This is contrary to what most of us were taught and/or led to believe by the beauty industry. Nowadays, most dermatologists agree that you shouldn’t wash your face with soap more than once a day. Some of us can wash even less frequently than that! We encourage you to consider “feeding your skin” as a way to maintain its natural balance rather than stripping away its natural moisture then trying to add it back.
I like this idea. Should I just skip the face cleanser entirely?
Ideally we would all live in forests and on farms, and only need to rinse the dirt and sweat off our face with warm water in the morning and evening. Used in conjunction with a toner and occasional exfoliation with a gentle loofah, this would remove any natural impurities that build up during the day. If this sounds like you, skip the cleanser! Unfortunately, most of us are not that lucky – and we have additional environmental stressors (like urban pollution) and cultural pressures (like make-up) that require a little more help to clean off.
Okay - got it. So how do I reduce the cleansing without stopping completely?
It’s important to remember that every body (and every face) is different, and there is no “one size fits all” face care regimen. We encourage you (based on your lifestyle and skin type) to experiment! Slowly start reducing the number of times per week that you use cleanser on your face to allow your skin time to adjust to the new routine. If you’re used to cleaning twice a day (morning and night) take a month to slowly reduce the morning washes and eventually only wash in the evening. See how that feels. If you’re already someone who only uses cleanser once a day and want to try reducing further, again, go slowly to allow your biome time to adjust. Have a day where you sit at home in your PJs and play board games? Skip the cleanser! Craft an Oscar Worthy smokey-eye for a fancy night out? Definitely don’t skip the cleanser. You get the point.
How do I use your Lavender Botanical Cleanser?
Rinse face with warm (not hot) water. Apply a small amount of Cleanser and gently cleanse the face, focusing on areas that need extra attention (like makeup removal). It is certainly safe to use regularly! But remember, the “feed your skin” philosophy recommends you only use when necessary, and ideally never more than once a day.
Our gentle cleanser is 100% vegan and plant based, made with all natural ingredients that are typically safe for sensitive skin:
- Vegetable Glycerin (soy): hydrating, moisturizing & smoothing
- Castile Soap: (Filtered Water, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Lye, sodium alginate), antibacterial & natural cleanser
- Coconut Oil:* antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, moisturizing
- Lavender Essential Oil: anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, soothing
*Please note that our Cleanser includes a small amount of coconut oil, which is both moisturizing and great for removing oil and makeup. However, it’s also comedogenic, meaning it forms a barrier on the skin (which is what helps trap moisture). This is fantastic for most skin types, but if you have extremely oily or acne prone skin, please test on a small area of your face first, since it could exacerbate significantly clogged pores.
