Why Lavender Connection Is a Perfect Day Trip from Seattle

Why Lavender Connection in Sequim Makes a Perfect Day Trip from Seattle

Looking for fun things to do near Seattle? Lavender Connection makes the perfect escape for a day or overnight trip!

We are always surprised when locals in Seattle admit they’ve never been out to the Olympic Peninsula (or worse, don’t know where it is…) There’s a myth that the Olympic Peninsula is difficult to reach and/or really far away, which is not true, otherwise we wouldn’t be going out to the Seattle markets every weekend. Basically, it’s not much longer than the average morning commute across the 520 bridge (#IYKYK). So if you’re planning a trip to Seattle (we’re looking at you World Cup fans!) or you’re a Seattleite looking for day trips or overnight adventures that aren’t too far away – look no further!

Insider scoop: Once you’re on the road, the trip becomes part of the reward. A drive from Seattle to Sequim has a little of everything PNW—evergreen mountains, rural farmland, ocean glimpses, and a few charming small towns along the way. Take the ferry across Puget Sound if timing works (highly recommended), or drive around—it’s scenic either way. By the time you arrive at Lavender Connection, the rows of lavender and that unmistakable scent in the air make it clear you’ve officially left Seattle behind.

Key Points to Convince Your Family (or Friends) It’s Worth It

  • Easy drive: Easy 1.5–2.5 hour day trip from Seattle, depending on if you drive or take the ferry.

  • Scenic route: Evergreen mountains, ocean views, Hood Canal Bridge, and charming towns along the way.

  • Calm & relaxing: A peaceful escape from city buzz.

  • Lavender experience: U-cut, wander the rows, shop, sample oils, and chat with the farmers.

  • World Cup pit stop: Take a break from the crowds and stadiums—stretch your legs, breathe in lavender, and recharge for the next match!

The Scenic Drive from Seattle

Your city escape begins in Seattle, where you can choose between two beautiful routes to Sequim. For a classic Puget Sound experience, take a ferry from downtown Seattle to Bainbridge Island. From there, drive through the Scandanavian village of Poulsbo and over the Hood Canal Bridge—a famous scenic landmark—before reaching the Olympic Peninsula. Allow about 1.5 hours of driving from the Bainbridge ferry terminal, plus another 30 minutes for the ferry ride and possible wait times during peak summer days.

If the ferries are busy or you prefer to drive the whole way, you can head south through Tacoma, cross the Narrows Bridge, and wind your way up the Kitsap Peninsula before arriving at the Hood Canal Bridge. This route takes roughly 2.5 hours from Seattle but offers plenty of charming stops and scenic views along the way (and can be faster than the ferry during peak travel times like Saturday morning).

Once on the Olympic Peninsula, the final stretch is a serene mountain drive lined with towering evergreen trees and glimpses of the ocean. You’ll pass the turnoff for the charming town of Port Townsend before arriving in Sequim.
